Lord's Prayer #3

October 31, 2016

“Your Kingdom” in Japanese is “Mikuni”.  In California there is Mikuni Restaurant = His Kingdom Restaurant??

Mikuni Restaurant serves Japanese food especially very fresh sushi. Owners of this restaurant are rather unique;

a Japanese speaking pastor and his family (like us). I met this pastor at one of the conferences.

He said “The first two years no customers at all, but all the sudden people started to gather like crazy.”

He doesn’t know why it happened this way. But anyways, they are doing very good business now.

Many customers thinks Mikuni is their family name, and call him “Mr. Mikuni” = “Mr. God’s Kingdom”.

What a blessed name!

Jesus talked about His kingdom so many times.  Can you guess how many times He mentioned this word  “kingdom”?

I counted each one as below;

49 times in Matthew,

16 times in Mark,

38 times in Luke,   all together …eh

103 times ,  Wow!

Jesus surely liked to talk about the kingdom a lot. So, as you can see, the kingdom was the main message in His teaching. Jesus also introduced us about His kingdom in the Lord Prayer. He said “Your kingdom come”

What does it really mean by this?  What is His /or Your Kingdom?

What happen if it really comes? What action do we need to take? Let us drive it deeply.

1.      Your kingdom come:  This prayer has 2 meanings:

(1) God’s reign within us – to know God rules over our heart.

(2)  Eschatology (end of the world) – to wait for His kingdom when this world ends.

(1) God’s reign within us

 Jesus said in Luke 17:20-21:

20 Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom

of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom

of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say,

‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because

the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

Jesus said the kingdom of God is in yourself… in your heart. We should have in our heart the kingdom reigned by the Lord Jesus, shouldn’t we? Have you thought about who really is in control of your life?

Before you have received Jesus into your heart, only the ruler was you… yes yourself was the ruler.

But after you’ve received Jesus into your heart, Jesus became your ruler.  Jesus sits on the throne in your heart.

Please try to look inside your heart.  Is it possible? Who do you see siting in your throne there?

Jesus controls your life for everything you do. He is the center of your life for whatever you do; all activities, studies, work, fellowship, eating, drinking or anything in your everyday life.  If you see Jesus in the center, or sitting on the throne, it is the true Christian life.

Maybe Jesus is somewhere in your heart, but not in the center, then don’t be afraid, many people are like that.

What you need to do is… yield the seat to Him. You sit on a co-pilot seat, and let Him sit on the pilot seat.  Let Him control your airplane. You fly with Him, but He controls the plane. It’s much safer this way.

Plane, throne, seats, pilot,…they all are inside your heart. You experience them within your heart. Invite His kingdom into your heart.

So you now know that His kingdom starts within your heart.

I walk a dog in our neighborhood sometimes. I used to see a very messy house at a corner; wall paint peeled, grass grew way too high, old oil stained driveway, and everything looked terrible. It was like a haunted house.

The owner, I found out later, was an old man.  He moved out -  died or went to Sr. citizens home, I don’t know.

Soon a young family moved in. They cut the grass, planted flowers, painted house, and then, children are playing and laughing in the yard. It became a completely different house; bright, joyful, charming house. The owner changed, and then, everything changed.

You are also the same way.  Jesus as your new owner, moves in, then your life becomes all new. He changed everything about you; inside and outside.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says,

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

My Japanese Bible says “everything has become anew.”

How about you?  Are you the new creation through Jesus, your new owner?

“Your Kingdom come” means that Jesus is coming to our heart, and He changes us completely.

So that we become the new creation. If you haven’t got this experience, I strongly encourage you.

Receive Jesus into your heart! Then His kingdom will come to you for real.

The second meaning about “Your kingdom come”

(2) Eschatology – a heavy word, meaning; study about the end of the world.

I don’t mean to scare you, but the Bible clearly tells us that this world will end someday.

We don’t know when, but we know for sure that the last day is getting closer each day.

Jesus mentioned in Matthew 24:35,

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

(Pass away means dies, or ends for good.)

Not only this verse but actually all 3 chapters of Matthew; 23, 24, 25 are about the end of the world.

You now see how much Jesus wanted to emphasize about the end of the world.

Our Bible shows us the beginning of the universe in Genesis, and the end of the world shown in Revelation.

The beginning to the end… alpha and omega.

Jesus predicted His second coming at the end. Did you notice the praise song we sang earlier today, “Flowers will”…

it’s about the second coming of the Christ. It goes, “ Some day soon the flowers will bloom,

The glorious Lord is coming back.” The whole song is about the end of the world.

This is actually main topic in the Christian teaching.  We recite every week, the Lord’s Prayer.”Your kingdom come.”

Also look at the Apostle’s Creed. “He will come again to judge the living and the dead.”

We have been reciting these every week. We are anticipating for His coming at the end of the world.

Or are you?

I mean, are you ready for His coming back? Someday our world ends for certain as the Bible tells us.

No one knows when.  It could be tomorrow, or 100 years from today or even later.

Are you ready?  How can we be ready for this?

A question was given to many people before. “If the world ends tomorrow, what will you do?”

Some answered, “I go to all bars in the city, drink all liquors and be surrounded by many women.”

Another one said, “I cry all day ask for pity.”

One Christian woman answered, “I will do the same thing as usual; read the Bible and pray, and spend time with my family.”  She also added “But this time I pray more and call all my friends and relatives, and tell them about Jesus.”

Which is your answer?  Jesus also answers for us in Matthew 24:42-44.

“42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.

44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man (Jesus) will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

Jesus teaches us to stay awake and keep watch, and He also tells us to be ready

all the time for this day. Because we don’t know when He is coming back.

Are you ready for this day?  Maybe you are.  You know for sure you would be with our Lord at end time.

But how about your family members who are not Christians? I bet you want them to be with the Lord and with you.

So what can you do to them? Please think about how you can be with them.  How you can show your love, how you can tell them about Jesus. Do it for this week. Then, your life and their life will start to change.

Conclusion:

When we pray, “Your kingdom come”… we know His reign starts within us, and also that goes on till the end of the world.  So that His kingdom will take over the reign. We are looking forward for this day;

the world will complete, and then His kingdom will begin.

Your kingdom come:  This prayer has 2 meanings:

(1) God’s reign within us – to know God rules over our heart.

(2)  Eschatology (end of the world) – to wait for His kingdom when this world ends.

His kingdom is working in us and it continues forever.

Always be ready for the day Jesus will be coming back.

Do what you need to do for the Lord today.

Let us calmly wait for His second coming with peace in mind.
